M.Sc. Environmental System Analysis and Management (ITC, The Netherlands)

Nepal, bestowed with an enormous wealth of natural and cultural diversity, experienced political conflict and a crisis of governance between 1996 and 2006. The violence and conflict could have an impact on community forests and the livelihoods of people that depend directly on these resources. A systematic and comprehensive study on the impact of political conflict and the crisis of governance on Nepal’s Community Forestry (CF) and rural livelihoods is so far lacking. My proposed research entitled “Political Conflict, Environmental Security and Rural Livelihoods Linkages in Nepal” will critically investigate the extent to which community forestry management and utilization efforts were effective in providing livelihood support to the rural poor before the emergence of conflict, how prolonged armed conflict (PAC) affected community forest management and access to and sustainable use of natural resources in forest dependent rural communities in Nepal.

Prior to pursuing my postgraduate studies at Murdoch, I worked in the Government of Nepal, specifically in the Department of Soil Conservation and Watershed Management and the Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology in various capacities.
