Dr Donna TurnerB. A. Hons. Social Sciences (Curtin University), PhD. Sociology (Murdoch University)
Donna is a research associate with the Asia Research Centre. She recently completed her PhD which explored state labour relations in Malaysia. She adopted a broad political economy perspective which focused on industrial, financial and social welfare policies. Her findings identified the contribution of these policies to stabilising a society and economy divided by ethnicity, geographic location and class, a situation exacerbated by Malaysia’s colonial inheritance. Previous to commencing her academic career, Donna worked with the Australian Bureau of Statistics, dealing with a wide range of economic and social indicators. While undertaking her PhD, she tutored at Curtin University and Murdoch University in sociology, demography and international political economy. She also worked part time as a Research and Administrative Officer with Edith Cowan University and as a Researcher with the Department of Premier and Cabinet. Donna is currently pursuing a focus on the political motivations shaping social welfare, household income policies and state-labour relations in Australia.
