Max LaneAuthor of many articles on Indonesia in various journals and edited collections, including "Mass politics and political change in Indonesia," in Reformasi Crisis and Change in Indonesia, A. Budiman and D. Kingsbury (eds), Monash Asia Institute, 1999 and "Indonesia three years after Suharto", Links, No. 18, 2001. He is currently working on two collections of essays: one on Indonesian politics and one the literary politics surrounding the publications of Indonesian novelist Pramoedya Ananta Toer. Max Lane is also the translator of the Penguin Editions of Pramoedya Ananta Toer's four volume Buru Quartet (This Earth of Mankind, Child of All Nations, and Glass House) and also Rendra's drama The Struggle of the Naga Tribe. He has recently completed a translation of Pramoedya's Arok and Dedes. Max Lane has served with the Australian Development Assistance Bureau (now AUSAid). Also as a researcher in the Australian parliament, including as Principal Research Officer for the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade (1984-1990). He has also organised major international conferences on East Timor and Asian Pacific Affairs.
