Dr. Teresa Shuk-ching PoonBSocSc (HKU), MA (Warw), PhD (Syd) Teresa Shuk-ching Poon is Assistant Professor at the Open University of Hong Kong, teaching courses including Strategic Issues for Management in the Asia Pacific Region, Managing Human Resources, and Strategic Management. Her recent research has focused on industrial development in East Asia, particularly Taiwan. Her book Competition and Cooperation in Taiwan's Information Technology Industry (Quorum Books, 2002) examines how inter-firm networks contributed to the upgrading of the information technology (IT) industry in Taiwan, using the global commodity chains perspective. While the book focuses on examining the IT industry, it addresses a much broader question of how Taiwan has been able to sustain, until very recently before the outbreak of the Asian financial crisis, its phenomenal rate of economic growth since the Second World War. Teresa has recently extended her research on the development of the IT and related industries into China.
