Associate Professor Malcolm Tull

Associate Professor Malcolm Tull is a member of Murdoch Business School’s Economics Section. He served as Deputy Head of the Business School from January 2002 to June 2004. Malcolm teaches units at both undergraduate and postgraduate level on the Australian economy, Asian economic development and the economics of globalisation. He has published widely in the field of maritime studies and is currently a Chief Investigator on two research projects: one on Indonesian shark fishing funded by the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research and another on the Port of Fremantle funded by an Australian Research Council Linkage Grant. He is responsible for editing one volume in Oxford University Press’s Encyclopaedia of Maritime History due for publication in 2007 and is an editor of the International Journal of Maritime History. Malcolm is Vice-President, Economic Society of Australia Inc. Western Australian Branch, and a member of the Organising Committee for the 35th Australian Conference of Economists (ACE).

In January 2006 Malcolm was appointed principal investigator for the History of Marine Animal Populations (HMAP) activities in SE Asia and a member of HMAP’s international Steering Group. HMAP is the historical component of the Census of Marine Life (CoML), and “aims to improve our understanding of ecosystem dynamics, specifically with regard to long-term changes in stock abundance, the ecological impact of large-scale harvesting by man, and the role of marine resources in the historical development of human society.” The Asia Research Centre will serve as the collaborating partner for HMAP’s activities in the region.
